When people ask us why we chose this piece of land in the wine village of Provesende – Douro-, we usually say it was Love at first sight. The problem was getting to know this corner on a sunny fall afternoon. Those who know it, know the magic that Douro does on sunny afternoons: you fall in love and never forget it.
After sitting at the bottom of the land, in a sunset, the smell of lavender, the sound of a multisonorous and endless chirping of birds will understand why everyone talks about the heights of Provesende and the Wonderful World in which the Douro Valley fits. The sun beats down with a different force, as if embracing, at just the right temperature. It’s not the stuffiness of Rio, nor the cold of the mountains, it’s just that, special. With a rusticity that cozies, with imperfections that help to season a certain refinement.
The “pateo” flanked by schist, watched from above by the house brand, an extraordinary wooden balcony, makes the space unique and special to rediscover the meaning of life. Experience and understand what Miguel Torga and so many other writers, painters, artists have chiseled for the annals of time in the writings they left us.
